This is a very large carvers stone of considerable character and stunning colourations, best suited for a freeform mounted sculpture. The right freeform artist will ensure that this stone, given the freedom to show what is behind the rind, will evolve as a powerful artwork. Whilst Tangiwai is classified as jade it is of the Bowenite category and a form of serpentine. This highly coloured stone boasts a vibrant, shifting gradient across rich olives to rustic greens and revealing mineral inclusions. It has a water-like, almost glass translucency.
